Hey Good Mommas! Spring break has come and gone in my household. It was great having everyone home for the week, but it’s just as nice to get everyone back to where we all belong: at school and at work. I’m still catching my breath from the hectic spring break and just reflecting a little on the week that was. Reflecting, means I’m avoiding the vast messes that grew, like spring flowers, when everyone was home.
KonMari Tidying Up for Busy Moms
In this household, when all our loved ones are home it gets noisy and happy, and busy; but most of all, it gets messy.
So, I’ve been watching Marie Kondo’s show, Tidying Up, and I find myself in a strange state of awe and bewilderment at every final reveal. I admire the clean, almost bare surfaces that appear after applying Marie Kondo’s method, but also feel it would be impossible to achieve that level of organization in my home.
I mean, do you know how many people live under this roof???
However, I do love the idea of surrounding myself with only items that spark joy. And, I love that I can simply close my children’s bedroom doors, areas of the home that historically do not spark joy in my heart. While I won’t control how the kids operate their rooms, I can revise the areas of my home that I have complete control over. I’m going to try out some tips I’ve taken from the KonMari method of Tidying Up!
Spark Kitchen Joy
Take joy in being in your kitchen, especially if you’re the main chef in your house. Try starting with just one drawer at a time. You may get one done in a week, you may get all of it done in an evening. Work with your schedule to declutter and refresh the heart of your home.
Spark Bedroom Joy
Yeah, I went there, hee hee! How you spark joy in your bedroom is REALLY up to you, but, when it comes to finding peace in a space meant for relaxation and rest, taking control of clutter should be a priority. Try the Konmari method to turn your bedroom into a haven; a place to find restoration. Take just 10 minutes each night for a week and tackle small areas of your bedroom. It should get your room feeling like a joyful place at a pace done at your choosing.
Spark Welcoming Joy
Let Marie Kondo welcome you home every day; use her happy method of decluttering to tame your entryway. I love coming home to a tidy space where shoes, backpacks, and various permission slips aren’t piled up and waiting for me. Give every item a home and make the storage easily accessible for all your family members. If they can reach it, they can put it away!
Taming the clutter in a home, regardless of the size or number of occupants, is not easy. So, if it’s your time to start climbing the various piles of junk that you’ve been avoiding, do it slowly, and just one piece at a time. It’s easy to get overwhelmed when tackling a mountain, so find your own pace when de-cluttering to spark your own joy!
