Vegetarian Cauliflower Buffalo Wings
Quick and easy, these vegetarian cauliflower buffalo wings can be made in an hour or so. They are so close to the real deal that it’s hard to believe. You can serve this as an appetizer, a side dish or even a stand-alone dish. For even more added flavor, you can add more spices to your liking and then, dip these munchies in blue cheese or ranch.
Ingredients
- 1 head of fresh cauliflower, florets pulled from the root (rinsed and dried)
- 1 cup of flour
- ½ c water
- ½ cup of milk
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of cumin
- 1 teaspoon of oregano
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon of black pepper
- ½ teaspoon of onion powder
- 2 tablespoons of butter, melted
- 4 tablespoons of hot sauce (more or less according to preference)
If you like your munchies super spicy, just like my family, go for the whole 4 tablespoons of hot sauce, and you won’t be disappointed. On the other hand, if your kids are not fans of hot appetizers, feel free to decrease the hot sauce, and they will still be great. You can also try to squeeze some lemon/lime over these munchies to kind of balance the flavor.
Directions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
- In a large bowl, bring together the flour, spices, milk, and water. Whisk until well combined.
- Dip each cauliflower floret into the flour mixture. Tap floret, so excess comes off.
- In a well-greased baking pan, add all of the cauliflower florets dipped in the mixture.
- Bake for 12 minutes, then flip over florets and bake for an additional 12 minutes.
- In a small dish, combine the melted butter (you can melt in microwave for about 10-12 seconds) and hot sauce.
- Once 24 minutes have passed, remove cauliflower from the oven. Gently pour the butter mixture
over the cauliflower and with a spoon or thong, gently toss the florets, making sure they’re all
well coated. - Return cauliflower to the oven and continue to bake for an additional 30-40 minutes, until desired tenderness is achieved. For extra crispy buffalo cauliflower wings, cook at a higher heat 450 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes, at the end.
- Serve with a side of celery, carrots and blue cheese or ranch.
Homemade foods always have the best flavor. So, if you can make your homemade blue cheese, why not? Because making yummy food that tastes exactly how you want it is what it’s all about. I also recommend going for extra crispy by heating the cauliflower buffalo wings by following my tips above. Remember to eat these munchies when they are still warm. You wouldn’t want them soggy and taste like a cold cauliflower.
